Stonebwoy has revealed that the Ghana music industry needs more work from everyone to become better.
The
BET award-winner in an interview with Pulse Ghana stated that the
industry will become bigger, if more
work is put into it from different
sectors of it.
“I cannot properly detail it, it is all going to be theoretical,”Stonebwoy said.
“But it takes effort from different sectors. Production wise,
investment wise, PR, you know what I mean. Just like Nigeria is doing
it, gradually, we are going to get there. Not even only Ghana, how about
Mozambique? How about Zambia?
Stonebwoy won the BET Award in 2015, an achievement
that has boosted his profile across the continent. But he continues to
work hard, and tells Pulse that his main aim is to stay relevant and
provide more music for his fans.
“My music
basically is a lifestyle to me. There are certain things that some
people would see as the next level. For me, my next level is making sure
that I am relevant for my people. Making sure that they get what they
want from me,” Stonebwoy says.
“At the
end of the day, I’m a humble musician, who brings the melodies and the
words that they want to hear to them. Asides that, we have big business
people who are doing their own things. The next level for me is to keep
on being me, and keep on feeding them with that vibe, just like the Bob
Marleys and the Fela Kutis did. Play a role as a musician, so I live my
life as a musician, not as a musician.”
Stonebwoy is currently in Johannesburg, South Africa,
for the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards. The Dancehall singer is nominated
in the ‘Best Live’ category. He faces stiff competition in the category
as he is up against Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Eddy Kenzo
(Uganda), Flavour (Nigeria) and Mafikizolo (South Africa) for that
award.
“It’s just the growth you know, we
thank God to be alive to be participating again at the MAMAs. We wish
for more of this to come,” Stonebwoy says.
The sixth edition of the MAMA which will take place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg on October 22, 2016.
