From New York to Nairobi, Patoranking continues to export African
reggae and dancehall to the world. There’s no doubt that Patoranking has
had what many dub as an unprecedented journey so far, rising to the
top
of the hearts and charts of Africa well within two years. With two
major endorsements and countless awards, the Foston Musik/VP Records
signee is blazing a trailthat is as unique as his sound, style, and
music.
On Saturday, November 7, 2015, Patoranking accomplished a
fete that many did not believe could be done. Patoranking organized his
own concert in Johannesburg, South Africa to officially kick off his
#Born2Win Concert Series. The sold-out concert held at Johannesburg’s
historic venue, Bassline, brought 1825 Ranking fans to their feet for
the 2.5-hour show.
The concert featured guest performances by South Africa’s A-list
acts: Khuli Chana, Bucie, Anatii, DreamTeam, and Emmy Gee. Hosted by the
infamous hypeman DJ Magnum, the concert kept grooving with the short
monster mix interludes by Nigeria’s own, DJ Prince. The crowd went into
frenzy when StarBoy CEO Wizkid was spotted in the crowd watching the
show. It’s always good to see superstars supporting their fellow stars.
Patoranking
described the night as: “A dream come true. The first time I ever
performed in SA was in July 2014 at Bassline. So for me, this was my
homecoming and this was my small way of thanking my Mzansi fans that
have been with me since Day 0. Big up to Khuli, Bucie, Anatii,
DreamTeam, Emmy G, and all the artists that came to show support for my
first show in South Africa. And of course, to the hot, blazing, Fiyah
fans! Wow. Seeing all those people show up reaffirmed the dream. The
Born2Win Africa Dream. Thank you South Africa! Thank you Africa!
WHAYASAY!”
On the following day, Sunday, 8 November, Patoranking
enjoyed another historicmoment becoming the first Nigerian artist ever
to perform on South African Idols. Performing his hit feature, “No Lie”,
alongside legendary rapper, Khuli Chana, Metro FM DJ and Idols Judge,
Unathi Msengana, described the performance as “electrifying and a truly
great collaboration between two of the continent’s top talents.”
After
the concert, performance on SA Idols, and release of his latest hit
“Make Am”, Patoranking has certainly built anticipation for his debut
album, which is set for release in 2016.
