An Indonesian Trigana Air aircraft that went missing with 54 people on board Sunday over the remote region of Papua has reportedly been found, CNN reports.
The
plane is said to have crashed, and the wreckage has been found in the
Oktabe district of Papua province. Details are still being verified;
however, villagers reported seeing the plane crash into a mountain.
According to NBC News,
the ATR42-300 twin turboprop plane was carrying 44 adults, five
children and five crew members when it went missing. All those on board
are believed to be Indonesian.
The flight took off from Sentani Airport
in Papua’s provincial capital of Jayapura after 2 p.m. local time (1
a.m. ET) en route to the city of Oksibil. Jayapura is about 175 miles
from Oksibil, and the flight should have lasted less than an hour.
