Wizkid failed to attend Skales’s concert to mark the release of his debut album. Although, EME chieftain, Banky W registered a supporting presence.
The
concert which held at the Federal Palace Hotel, on Sunday, May 31,
2014, was primed to offer a lot of attractions, living up to its
billing.
Skales, the man who was dumped last year
by his previous record label, the prestigious-but-declining-EME, was the
star of night, switching between emotions, charisma, talent, and wonder
as he performed to an audience who braved the lingering fuel crisis to
register their support.
Wizkid and Skales cut their teeth together under the
Empire Mates Music umbrella. They were lorded by Banky W, who gave them
their first shot at stardom in 2010 and 2011. The music house has since
split up, with Wizkid’s success proving too much for EME to hold onto
him, and Skale’s indifferent form and artistic stagnation inspiring his
bosses to withhold a new contract from him.
Both
stars left in 2014, Wizkid signing out on a high with the much-maligned
‘Ayo (Joy)’ album, and Skales hitting the lowest point of his career
without label support and direction.
Fast forward to 2015 and both stars are on the rise.
Skales has made major in-roads into the prevailing Nigerian pop culture
and Wizkid, has, well, been himself.
But earlier
this year, the duo had seemed to clash on social media, going to war on
Twitter, in a messy display of pent-up anger and feelings of betrayal.
They have since made peace, according to sources.
But
that peace seem to be only existent in rumors, as Wizkid was noticeably
absent at the ‘Man Of The Year’ concert. The Starboy boss failed to
offer any reason for his absence and in the weeks leading up to the
event, offered no promotional support.
Banky W was present
at the event, maintaining a healthy signature calm disposition, and at
moments, displaying pride at the discovery and early creation of the
brand Skales. He even did go out of his way in promoting the concert on
his social media account.
“Bigups to my lil
bro @youngskales.. I'm proud to have played a small part in building ur
foundation. U jumped off the ship, and instead of sinking or swimming, U
flew .all pls support him at his launch tonight... great album.” Banky “W said, showering his ‘son’ with praises.
