A clash between rival cult groups in Delta state has left 12 people
dead. Among those killed are three pregnant women and a juju priest
loyal to one of the factions.
Twelve people including three
pregnant women were
killed on Thursday as two rival cult groups clashed at Boji Boji-Owa
community in Agbor, Delta State.
Also killed in
the violence is a native doctor who allegedly makes charms for one of
the warring groups and accommodates them in his shrine.
Student Pulse gathered from reports that the violence was between members of Ake Confraternity and Aiye who have been battling each other in a three-year-old a supremacy tussle.
Before Thursday's attack, the cultists have at many times shot into the air at night and raped some ladies.
Residents were left afraid for their lives yesterday as the cultists overran the town, openly wielding dangerous arms.
A
resident of the area, Madam Alice Igbenoba, told Nigerian Pilot that
she had lost two children to cult related violence and called on the
government to arrest the situation.
“I want the
state government to come to our aid; we are tired of these killings,
especially at night when they begin to shoot and kill innocent persons,"
Igbenoba said.
The Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, said that 26 suspected members had been arrested in connection with the killings.
Kalu said bodies of the victims of Thursday's attack have been deposited at mortuaries in state-owned hospitals.
He
added that the Police have beefed up security and made a several arrest
in connection with the activities of the cult groups in the area.
