Diego MaradonaArgentine legend sued to court over 40 million euros scandal

Italian tax agency, Equitalia sues Maradona to courtItalian tax agency Equitalia declared Maradona a tax evader in 2012, following attempts not to pay tax while he was at Napoli. The Argentine legend maintains innocence, discrediting the agency

The Italian state-owned tax agency, Equitalia is suing Diego Maradona for defamation over a 2012 report that he owed 40 million euros in unpaid taxes during his playing days for club, Napoli.
Maradona who has always claimed innocence of any deliberate attempt at tax evasion says that he has been a "victim of persecution by the Equitalia", while standing on the point that he was never informed of paying any money.
Italian prosecutors say that his claim of slanders defames their reputation and sued, set to appear in court on March when the judge is expected to reach a verdict.
In an attempt to recover some of the unpaid taxes, Equitalia confiscated Maradona’s Rolex Watch valued at 11,000 euros in 2006.
